The holidays are always a reflective time, and at Concord, December is the month we focus on Generosity for our character education. ‘Tis the season of giving–of our time, our thoughts, and in some cases, of gifts.
We are grateful that our students and our families have been so generous and giving this year with our service projects! Each year, we offer the Mitten Tree to our families, which has paper mittens with items written on them for area families in need. The last few years, we’ve been adding more families to our list to meet the need of our families! What a great thing for our area!
Each year, our families choose mittens that they’d like to purchase, such as “shirts for a 10 year old girl, size M”, and return the gifts they’ve purchased unwrapped. Our elementary students (K-4) spend a morning wrapping the gifts, and attaching the mittens. Mrs. Batchelder, who organizes the mitten tree, then arranges either a delivery for each of the families, or a pick up. This year, CAB families helped 5 families in need!
In addition, this year, the CAB elementary students got all involved again, by sending items from a wish list to a troop stationed in Kuwait! Ms. Theile’s brother, a Master Sgt. in the Air Force, oversees a troop that was missing some items from home, and we were able to gather 5 large boxes of goods to send them!
The spirit of generosity is alive and well at Concord, and we’d like to thank all staff, students, parents, Board members, and community members and extended family who helped out. Thank you for being part of the Concord village, and helping to teach this important character trait to our students!
